Warp Records founders Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett created Warp Films alongisde some additional funding from the charity NESTA. In 2001 founder Rob Mitchell passed away, and Beckett decided to continue the business with the help of Mark Herbet - a Sheffield friend who had recently produced Peter Kay's Pheonix Nights for Channel 4.

The first film produced by Warp was 'My Wrongs 8245–8249 & 117' in 2002. This film won the Best Short Film award at the 2003 BAFTA Film Awards, and also became the first short film DVD in the UK market. Warp have continued to produce indepedent films and TV shows. Some of their most popular productions include Dead Man's Shoes and This Is England (TV).

Currently Warp Films are working with Channel 4, the BBC and Sky to develop several TV projects and they are also looking at developingmore independent films with directors such as Shane Meadows.
